Site History
The Hyrulian Network was first created in October of 2003 by InformeroftheSages as a way to express his passion for The Legend of Zelda franchise. It represented not only a conduit for joining and interacting with the Zelda Community, but also a means for learning and constantly refining web coding and graphic design skills. For the first 9 years of its existence, The Hyrulian Network was hosted on Freewebs (now Webs) at http:..www,freewebs.com/hyrule. Initially built with a WYSIWYG editor, it eventually made its way to HTML. Although the site promised to offer Zelda content in the form of walkthroughs, media, and other innumerous content found on large and succcessful Zelda websites, it never delivered on its promise. However, it did stay true to its source and reason for existing - to provide a means for the latest Zelda news to be analyzed and discussed subjectively and objectively by Informer and the Zelda Community. While the community's involvement on the site was always limited to an old Proboards forum and a now defunct Shoutbox, The Hyrulian Network always served as Informer's tie to the Zelda community. Eventually with time, updates became incredibly infrequent and on average, appeared once a year. During this time period, the site underwent drastic design changes as Informer tried out 9 different layouts ranging from free pre-made HTML layouts that he modified, to some of his own basic creations. Eventually he settled on the blue layout that is reflected in the main banner, as it was his best effort at coding, creating, and slicing a layout by himself. This layout stayed for over 4 years.
Finally, Informer decided that it was time to leave the false promises behind and truly take to the next level what the site has always been about: voice. The current version of The Hyrulian Network that you see was chosen because of its easy-to-read-and-manage blog format. While initially skeptical about returning to a WYSIWYG editor, the difference between the level of options and customizability for drag-and-drop website builders between 2003 and 2012 is absolutely astounding. Eventually realizing that he could still edit HTML and CSS, Informer decided to adopt Weebly as The Hyrulian Network's new host.
Eventually, when Informer has the time, he will devote the resources necessary to allow The Hyrulian Network its own domain name, access to premium hosting, and the ability to use PHP and other SSI scripts.
If you are looking for original web content, we direct you to our affiliates; and, if you are looking for media and probably everything else Zelda-related you could possibly want, we direct you to some of the larger Zelda websites on the internet. There are many out there. Do a Google search.
But - if you are looking for the latest Zelda news presented objectively and subjectively, and some of the nicest people and friends in the Zelda Community, we encourage you to enjoy your stay here.
The Hyrulian Network has withstood the test of time and has almost survived a decade of existence. Here's to the next 10!
